gooey butter cake success! so successful that even the cat was interested and helped herself to a crumb(!!?)
I definitely was extremely dubious about the yeasted cake part of this recipe; I tried three times to get the yeast to go and finally decided the kitchen was probably too cold and the yeast was surely fine and went ahead with the recipe, hoping the yeast rng was good; it didn't rise *at all* overnight and I put it in the closed oven for the whole morning after flicking it on and off to bring it up to "room" temperature.
I was prepared to come back and toss the whole thing and make backup shortbread instead, but it did indeed manage to rise mostly as much as I wanted, so I finished off the rest of the cake this afternoon.
I still think it'd be better if it had risen a little bit more and I had baked it a smidgen less, but honestly it was all much more of a success than I had imagined it would be.

Gonna repeat a piece of advice we saw on here because it's still good advice: if you want to respond to someone who didn't ask for advice to offer advice, either ask before you say anything or give your reply an "unsolicited advice" content warning. This approach doesn't just let people scroll past when they don't want backseat driving, it really shows that you respect their autonomy and understand the limits of your knowledge ... which, in turn, makes it easier for them to consider your advice, bevause they can trust you not to be a jerk if they turn it down. It's a win for everyone involved - strong encourage. #FediTips

so we've been trying to move for a month and shit keeps getting in the way. now we're going to need to stay at a goddamn hotel and put all our furniture in storage because my roommate and the old apartment complex are shooing us out the door by Thursday. meanwhile, today we learn whether we need to put in a deposit, and how long it will be before we know when we'll know how long it will be until we can move in.
