Yesterday I powered this classic #Commodore #Amiga 500 for the first time in decades, and it still works flawlessly!
Well, aside from the floppy drive, which seems to have a flaky disk detection switch. It's a common issue with these drives, and I'm watching a couple of videos showing how to fix them.

Since the #Amiga 500 power supply was missing in the box, I ordered this RetroPower PSU:

It's pricey, but I thought I could share it with the VIC 20, Plus 4 and #C64 which I'm currently repairing. Unfortunately it's not possible: the Amiga model lacks the 9VAC output needed by the 8-bit machines 😭
Why don't they sell a generic model with all the voltages, so you can simply swap the cable??
Also annoyingly, this RetroPower PSU is rated exclusively for 230V AC outlets. Will I have to buy a different PSU if I want to take the Amiga 500 to the US (120V) or Japan (100V)?
Modern switching transformers usually tolerate a wide range of input voltages. So why this one won't? 💢
@codewiz Chances are they are just using an off-the-shelf switching power supply internally (which would very likely work with a wide range of mains voltages) but it’s impossible to tell without taking it apart. If they use their own design it might only work for specific voltages and blow up (or just shut down) otherwise.
