@hikingdude I've been cooking my own bread on a weekly basis for 2 years now (with sourdough) and I don't think I'll ever go back, it's a small investment but with a very satisfying outcome!
It's simple ingredients but it's also interesting to see how small variations can have a huge impact on the final result
@mbr @hikingdude Nice loaves! Ha ha, me too! I bake a loaf a week. I always wanted to learn how to make nice crusty table loafs and when you couldn't get yeast during the pandemic I finally learned how to make sourdough. I wouldn't go back to making bread with my bread machine ever. (But I still have the machine and two jars of yeast frozen in the freezer. I'm not sure why? Made bread that way for decades. Still better than store bought, which I've tried recently, and is almost inedible.)
@elaterite @hikingdude I'm so lazy I waited for a friend to give me sourdough 😅 at first it was to cook pizza (I learned more than 10 years ago with Italian friends how to do it but started to cook them on a weekly basis during the first lockdown) but I had too much sourdough so I started to experiment with bread. I'm lucky enough to live in France where it's easy to find good bread (in my not-so-big village there are 3 bakeries, 2 decent ones and one really good) but it's not the same, although I still enjoy a freshly baked baguette
