🧵 My 320 x 256 pixels intro artwork for the 1992 Amiga game Hoi.

The image was accompanied by a seven-channel tune, made in our own music editor called Digital Mugician. The seven-voice tune needed so much processor speed that my picture had to be reduced to 16 colors. 😅

🧵 In 1992, my two dev partners and I made the first "advergame" in the Netherlands, for a 75-second national TV commercial.

In the commercial, a boy jumps into the game to get a Calvé peanut-butter jar for his girlfriend.

This is my 16-color isometric background.

🧵 In 1992, my two dev partners and I made the first "advergame" in the Netherlands, for a 75-second national TV commercial, and a TV show called Telekids.

In the TV show, kids could play the game to win their height in stacked Calvé peanut-butter jars. 🙂

🧵 #PixelArt for a Radarsoft point-and-click adventure, early 1990s.

Radarsoft was an early game developer in the Netherlands. The game had to run on MS-DOS PCs with CGA graphics, limited to a resolution of 320 x 200 pixels and 16 fixed colors. I used pixel patterns for the illusion of mixed colors.

Connaisseurs will recognize the #Amiga 1000 computers I depicted in some locations. 😎

I was in a transition from Deluxe Paint (Amiga) to Photoshop (Windows 95), hence the mix between dithering and actual smoothing. It looked better on a CRT screen. 😅

The image didn't make it into the game, because we decided to go for 3D animation.

🧵 A terminal I made for our 1997 Windows game Moon Child. Back then, having 256 colors at your disposal for a game was still relatively luxurious, so I had to make use of the smooth gradients that were possible. 🙂

As you can see, I used Deluxe Paint ("DPaint") on an Amiga to create this.

🧵 The last game I made with a fellow Team Hoi game developer was a China-themed 2003 platform game called Yin Hung for the Symbian mobile OS, used by several Nokia mobile phones, such as the N-Gage.

I had shifted from pixel art to 3D creation in the late 1990s, and used 3ds Max to create Yin Hung's graphics.

Some of the logos have a restricted amount of colors, to allow a visual effect behind it.
